Souvenir design
New designs for souvenirs are being sought by the Industrial Design Council, which is running a design contest in association with travel and tourist interests.
The competition will be it two sections. The first will bt for souvenirs at present ir production and available t< the public. For the best entn in this category there wil be an award of a week's stay for two at any Tourist Hote Corporation resort, and re turn air travel jy the National Airways Corporation, The second section, which is expected to attract widespread public interest, is for the best design for a souvenir not yet in production. The winner will receive a trip for two to Sydney by Air New Zealand, and $2OO provided by the council. Entries will be judged on the basis of originality, practicality and merit of design. The judges will be Mr O Hatcher, an Auckland graphic designer and tutor. Mr P. Haythomwaite. lecturer in design at the University of Auckland. Professor H. J. Simpson, dean of the fine arts faculty at the Universitv of Canterbury. Mr S. W Toomath. a Wellington architect, and representatives of the sponsoring airlines and hotel corporation.
