"SPYS" ON PRINCESS

(N.Z. Press Assn. —CopgrighD LONDON, December 14. Anti-blood-sport campaigners said yesterday that they had informers inside Windsor Castle “spying” on Princess Anne. The British League Against Cruel Sports was continuing its attack on the Princess for taking part in fox hilnts. “We have informants everywhere, which includes Windsor Castle,” said the

league’s secretary (Mr Mark Davies). The league refused to give any further details. Earlier, the league alleged that a survey of 1741 people had shown that most opposed any involvement by the Royal Family in fox hunting. In the case of Princess Anne, it said, “even allowing for her possible youthful indiscretions and the inbuilt public loyalty towards her,” 48 per cent opposed her taking part in fox hunting and only 37 per cent approved. The league’s chairman (Mr Raymond Rowley) said that the results of the survey would be sent to the Princess.

Prince Philip had given up tiger-shooting 10 years ago after the league had “kicked up a fuss,” said Mr Rowley. “We hope she will think again and will not flout public opinion by going fox hunting any more.” A spokesman for the Field Sports Society, Mr Raymond Brooks-Ward, has condemned the survey as “the usual shabby publicity-seeking attack.”

“Let’s get it straight once and for all,” said Mr BrooksWard. “Hunting is a legal sport, which has been enjoyed by thousands of people over the years.”
