GRADUATE JOB STUDY
Difficulties experienced by graduates in finding suitable employment ■ are being assessed by the University of Canterbury. The graduate appointments officer (Mr F. Whiteling), whose office is conducting a survey, referred yesterday to “adverse publicity given to the student employment situation.”
“The implication of such reports is that the country is producing either too many graduates or not enough graduates with relevant qualifications. Traditionally the arts graduate has been the target for such attacks, but in the last two years it has been suggested that difficulties are being experienced by graduates irrespective of their course of study,” he said.
Questionnaires have been sent to 802 students who have been registered with the graduates appointments office since 1970.
Mr Whiteling said he hoped that the results of the survey would be available by Christmas.
