SOUTH PACIFIC BUREAU FOR ECONOMIC CO-OPERATION The Member Governments of the South Pacific Forum —Australia, the Cook Islands, Fiji, Nauru, New Zealand, Tonga and Western Samoa—wish to engage a Research Officer and an Assistant Research Officer for the newly-established South Pacific Bureau for Economic Co-operation, located in Suva, Fiji. The Bureau is a new regional concept, and will require staff with energy, enthusiasm and a vigorous practical approach. The functions of the Bureau are to promote the expansion of trade in the region and to facilitate economic co-operation in such fields as shipping, communications, industrial development and tourism. The appointments will take effect as soon as possible and will normally run for a term of three years. RESEARCH OFFICER This position requires an intermediate level economist with some experience in economic research; in the preparation of official reports and policy recommendations; and in international economic relations, preferably with particular reference to the South Pacific region. The salary and overseas allowances where applicable will be about SAIO,OOO per annum.
