Wharf cost reduced

<N.Z. Press Association) WELUNGTON, Dec. 5. Wharf handling charges at Wellington have been cut 25 per cent by the Union Steam Ship Company, effective from last Friday. The Wellington manager of the company (Mr D. A. Graham), in a circular to importers advised that the present rate of $1.90 a ton—the consignee’s share of wharf handling—would be reduced to $1.50 a ton. This applied to conventional vessels only and not to roll-on ships on the Tasman express service. “One word of warning — our last review covereo the six-month period ended October 31, and the recent cost-of-living increase became effective on October 26. As a result, this increase has not had time to affect our costa,” said Mr Graham.
