SCREEN WALLS FOR OUTDOOR PRIVACY

Screen walls built with single hole grille blocks make a very attractive addition to any home. They can be used to screen the veranda or patio, make private the side entrance, as a dividing fence, or as a front fence. In fact, there is no limit to where these simple, but attractive grille blocks can be used. At fig. 1 is shown a very pleasant design for a screen wall, using blocks 14 inches long by six inches high by eight inches wide. For the neat design shown at fig. 2 the blocks are 16 inches long by eight inches high by four inches wide. Other sizes are available in these single-hole blocks. Apart from the two designs shown numerous designs can be made by the various arrangements of the blocks.

The blocks are available in natural grey, standard colours and opal white. Like any other wall, the screen wall must be constructed on a suitable foundation. Concrete is the best material for these foundations, designed to the correct width and thickness to support the designed wall. The wall may be built with i or | inch mortar joints. Mortar joints These mortar joints, while easy for the tradesman, could be a little difficult for the handyman. The special masonry adhesive would be much simpler for the handyman to use. It also has the advantage of making a fine pencil line joint that is most attractive.
