“OLD” YOUTH DELEGATES
(New Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 5. The Wellington Regional Youth Council says it is concerned that some delegates to the National Youth Council’s recent annual meeting were out of touch with the real problems facing young people today.
•‘Certain members on the ' executive of the National |i Youth Council, and some ! delegates to the meeting, < i < <
were nothing less than aspiring politicians who were there only to push their own organisation to the surface and make it noticed," said a statement by the Wellington council.
"Some delegates at the meeting were in their midthirties and upwards. “If these delegates were truly representative of their respective youth organisations, it would seem that such youth organisations are fast becoming old folks’ clubs.” The council said it hoped to shake the dust from some delegates and executive members at the special general meeting of the National Youth Council in March. “We want a body working in the interests of all its member organisations—one which will truly represent the [view being expressed by young people at the grass roots level.”
