New test lane

The new fourth lane has been brought into service at the Sockbum vehicle testingstation and will not only relieve the holiday rush, but lessen the time normally needed to get a warrant of fitness. The new lane, built at a cost of $52,000 — including air-curtain heating at either end of the lanes — will be used chiefly by the Ministry of Transport, leaving the public with full use of the two testing and one re-test lanes. There was a three months delay in opening the new lane because wharf strikes delayed overseas shipments of equipment. In 1967, the first year in which the station was open, 29,000 warrants were issued. Last year, the total was 60,000.
