Helms to leave C.I.A.
'(N.Z. Preu Assn.—Copyright) WASHINGTON, Dec. 3. Mr Richard Helms, who has been director of America’s Central Intelligence Agency since 1966, will resign soon, to assume as yet undisclosed responsibilities, the “Washington Post” and the "Sunday Star” report. Mr Helms, who is 59, seems likely to be replaced by the present director of the Atomic Energy Commission, Mr James Schlesinger, who helped to re-organise the C.I-A when President Nixon came to power. Franco 80 Reluctant to appear to be a snob, the Spanish Head of State (General Franco) will not be celebrating his eightieth birthday today. “He has never liked celebrating hrs birthday, and those of us who do he calls snobs,” the general’s sister, Pilar, said yesterday.—Madrid, Dec. 4.
