New wing at hospital

The foundation stone of a two-storey, 42-bed extension to the Nurse Maude Hospital in St Albans was laid yesterday by the chairman of the North Canterbury Hospital Board (Dr L. C. L. Averill). The 200 guests at the ceremony included the Mayor (Mr N. G. Pickering) and Mrs Pickering, and the chairman of the Nurse Maude District Nursing Association (Mr L. D. Cotterill). The new wing will give the hospital a total of 76 beds as well as physiotherapy and occupational therapy facilities. Work should be finished in about 18 months.
