GRANT FOR WRITERS

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 26. An annual grant of $4OO would be made from the Literary Fund to P.E.N. (New Zealand centre) to be used for awards to young writers, said the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Highet). The awards will be open to writers aged 18 or under, nominated by schools or some other suitable organisation. Prizes of $lOO and $5O, amounting to $4OO, will be ; offered. The award was to provide an incentive for young writers by making money i available for the purchase of 'essential equipment such as (typewriters, said the Minister.
