Practice for officials Two age groups wil! be catered for in the inaugural national secondary schools’ athletic championships at Queen Elizabeth II Park on December 8 and 9 next year. They will be for athletes under 16 on December 10, 1973, and for athletes over 16 and under 19 on the same date. The meeting will be used as a practice for the officials who will run the Commonwealth Games athletics in 1974. It will be held in conjunction with the national pentathlon and decathlon trials for the Games. All established inter-secon-dary school events would be contested in the senior grades for both boys and girls, said the chairman of the schools’ organising committee (Mr M. A. Mcßae). A steeplechase and a 4 x 400 metres relay would be included in the boys’ programme. Pupils who completed the 1973 academic year would be eligible to compete, provided they were under 19 on December 10, Mr Mcßae said. Entries were being called for by the end of this season. Sponsorship is being sought for the championships.
