Subsidies announced

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Stakes subsidies totalling $50,100 for 31 weight-for-age and set-weight races were announced yesterday by the Racing Authority. The subsidies cover all weight-for-age events and set-weight events, with the exception of two-year-old races. Announcing the move, the chairman of the authority (Mr H. G. Callam) said the special subsidies would be paid for one year only. As announced earlier, the authority will review the whole stakes subsidy scheme before the next racing season, which will begin on August 1 next year. “This interim subsidy scheme is designed to make the maximum amount of stakes subsidy available to owners during this season,” Mr Callam eaid. Subsidies range from $9OO (Bay of Plenty Easter Trial, Jackson Stakes, Stretto Stakes. and Wanganui Guineas), to $4500 (Great Northern Derby).
