ONE-TON CLP

16 contest title (N.Z.P. A. -Reuter—Copyright) SYDNEY. The world One-Ton Cup yachting championship, to be! sailed in Sydney next month,! has a total of 16 entries from 10 countries.

Australia, New Zealand and the United States will each be represented by three yachts; Japan, Sweden, Hong Kong, Britain. France, Canada and West Germany have one each. Several crews will be competing in yachts chartered from Australia and New Zealand.

Arrangements were completed yesterday for the British skipper, R. Hill, to charter the New Zealand yacht, Escapade, which was placed fourth in both the Australian and New Zealand team trials. The French crew, from New Caledonia, will sail the Melbourne yacht, Wild Goose.

The Brisbane yacht, Clay Target, is to be manned by the Hong Kong team, and Sweden will be represented by Victoria, a “Swan 37” that competed in the 1972 One-Ton Cup in Auckland. It is expected that one of the strongest contenders this year will be the West German entry, Ydra, which will be skippered by H. Beilken, who has won the cup twice.

Boxing.—Rudi Schmidtke (West Germany) won the European light heavy-weight boxing title from Chris Finnegan (Britain) at Wembley. The fight was stopped in the twelfth round because of a bad cut on Finnegan’s nose.
