CHINA BUYS BRITISH

Second order for Trident (N.Z. Press Association) HATFIELD, Nov. 15. China is to buy another eight Trident airliners from the British firm, Hawker Siddeley Aviation. The order, signed in Peking, brings total Trident sales to China to £6Bm. Hawker Siddeley has already signed contracts to supply 12 Trident 2E aircraft to Peking—the most valuable export order for civil aircraft ever placed in Britain. The new order was announced at a ceremony at the Hawker plant, when the company gave delivery of the first Trident, in China’s green, blue and white colours. The company is building a special extended-range Trident exclusively for China. It will have a range of 1930 miles, compared with 1500 miles for the biggest Tridents run by British European Airways.
