Investigation of fire
I.V.Z Press Association! AUCKLAND, Nov. 8 Detectives are investigating the fire which broke out in Cornish’s department store in Queen Street this morning. Th blaze, which, according to the deputy chief fire officer (Mr A. W. Bruce), had the "makings of a really serious ! fire,” was noticed shortly after 11 a.m. About 4000 shoppers were shepherded from the building I when flames and smoke I belched from a stock room containing soft furnishings | and bedding on the third floor. Firemen had the blaze in control in half an hour.
