PROMOTION FOR LAMB

(N.Z.P.A. Staff Correspondent) SINGAPORE, Nov. 8. With lamb sales to Singapore falling in the wake of the British military withdrawal last year, the New Zealand Meat Board is trying to persuade the Asian population to fill the gap. Importers say that lamb sales have dropped 30 to 40 per cent since the British military rundown, which saw the last of 26,000 British troops and their families leave. The board’s new lamb promotion campaign is mainly aimed at wooing youngsters and newly-weds among Singapore’s 1.6 m Chinese away from their traditional meats, pork and chicken. Cooking demonstrations will be held at social clubs and community centres. Mr Mark Bersten, who is handling the campaign, said only one in six persons attending had ever tasted lamb before.
