Homeless in London
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright.) LONDON, Nov. 8. About 8000 young people, excluding tourists, were now homeless and living roughly in London, a social worker said last evening. The social worker was addressing a meeting called by eight voluntary societies who were starting a Crisis-at-Christmas campaign for the homeless. A junior Health Minister, Mr Paul Dean, told the meeting that the Government was “doing its best” to meet the challenge of the homeless and said that this Christmas there would be 300 more beds at reception centres than there were last year. The social worker had blamed much of the crisis on rising property prices.
