Golden Disc Show from Town Hall
This year the Loxene Golden Disc Award Show will be presented live from the Christchurch Town Hall. Again the winners of the overall award and the winners of the soloist and group awards will have been decided by public voting. Finalists this year include seven groups and five soloists, and an interesting feature is that Tommy Adderley, who was a finalist in the first Golden Disc Award in 1965 as a soloist, is a finalist again this year as leader of a group. All the finalists will perform their entries on the show, and this has meant some anxious moments for producer Peter Muxlow. It seems inevitable that groups break up and artists go overseas, and this year was no exception. However, all is well, for Rangi Parker is coming from Australia especially for the show, and the
remaining members of Headband still in the country are getting together again. The Loxene Golden Disc carries with it a cash prize of $5OO in addition to the trophy. The soloist and group awards carry prizes of $250 each and their respective trophies.
Compere for the show will be Peter Sinclair and there is a cast of 16 dancers who will perform on a specially designed set to give an added touch of glamour.
The Loxene Golden Disc Award has become an important feature of the New Zealand light entertainment scene and it is fitting that it comes from such prestigious surroundings as the fine new Christchurch Town Hall. “The Loxene Golden Disc Award 1972” will screen direct from the Christchurch Town Hall on all channels of the N.Z.B.C. television network on Tuesday.
