Party’s five candidates
(N.Z. Press Association)
WELLINGTON, Nov. 8. The Socialist Unity Party has five candidates in this month’s General Election. Present problems facing New Zealand arose from the crisis of the free-enterprise system, said the party, in a statement today. “The inroads of international monopoly and financial investment have heightened the contradictions of the present National Government between local interests of the people and those of monopoly,” the statement said.
The party cited what it asserted was “the deliberate running down of Government social services” as an indication of the National Government’s “contradictions.”
In urging electors to support the Socialist Unity candidates, the party called for the defeat of the National Party and the return of the Labour Party.
“The election of a Labour Government can lead to much-needed reforms being implemented; and a sound Socialist vote will be the foundation of further progress,” the statement said.
