Commonwealth Games funds
Sir, —I have been disturbed I 7 the lack of information supplied by the Commonwealth Games Organising Committee on the total amount contributed to their fund. The last figure .published, some months ago,' was $503,000. Do the Games organisers wish to keep the figure secret? I feel that all contributors have the right to know what the situation is.—Yours, etc., CONTRIBUTOR. October 25, 1972. [Mr J. K. McAlpine, chairman of the Commonwealth Games Appeal Committee, replies: “There is no intention of secrecy by the Games Organising Committee concerning progress of the appeal. In most appeal regions activity has been quiet during the months close to the Olympic Games and over that period there has been no great increase. The appeal total now stands at $529,558 20c. Rather than give a progress total with weekly acknowledgements, in newspaper columns we will, in future, be making reports of a more comprehensive and informative nature at regular intervals.”]
