Car hits pole

A steel telegraph pole was bent almost double when a light car struck it about six miles north of Waipara at 3.15 yesterday. The driver of the car, Mrs Joyce Doris Arnold, aged 54, of 45 Cygnet Street, Christchurch, suffered serious arm, leg and chest injuries. Mrs Arnold was travelling north when she struck a pole on the right-hand side of the road about 100 ft north of the Spye railway crossing. Telegraph lines were brought down but toll services were not affected. Mrs Arnold was treated at the accident by Dr A. H. Meikleham, of Waikari, and taken to Christchurch by the Rangiora St John Ambulance.
