Mr Khan Abdul Wali Khan, president of the National Awami Party and the main Opposition leader in Pakistan. today offered to co-oper-ate with President Bhutto in establishing “a real democracy, and a progressive society.” "The country cannot afford politics of confrontation,” he told a public meeting in Peshawar. Mr Wali, whose party rules in two provinces, returned home recently from a long absence abroad, including medical treatment in London. He said that he hoped President Bhutto would encourage the development of a democratic atmosphere by ensuring complete freedom of the press; the release of all political detainees; and the ending of what he describee! at “a one-party monopoly ol the mass - communicatior media.” Mr Wali avoided comment on last month’s agreement reached during his absenc< between the Government ant the Opposiiton. on the shape of the future Constitution.
