Hockey assn report “leaked” to club

A leakage of the Canterbury Hockey Association’s management committee minutes to a club drew criticism from the association’s chairman (Mr T. I. Crossen) last evening.

Apart from the minutes of half-yearly and annual meetings, the C.H.A. does not release its committee minutes to clubs. However, the president of the Selwyn Hillmorton club, in a letter to the association, complaining about his club’s senior team having to play two promotion and relegation matches with Redcliffs at the end of last season, quoted the page number and relevant setcion of a decision made by the management committee at its meeting on July 17. “I must comment strongly or this,” Mr Crossen said. “That a club is able to quote this information indicates that there is a leakage of our minutes to the club. “It Is alarming and somewhat disgusting that some person or persons unknown have let the club have access to a copy of the minutes or that a club i through methods unknown has

gained a copy to peruse for its own ends.” The secretary <Mr I. D. Teague) reported that the club had been given a copy of the half-yearly minutes but not of the management committee minutes. “If this is going to happen, the person or persons involved would be better off not administering provincial hockey,” Mr Crossen said. “And if the Selwyn Hillmorton club has to resort to its president writing to the Canterbury association instead of the secretary, then there is something wrong with its administration, he added Selwyn Hillmorton was questioning the association’s reasons for making It play a second match with Redcliffs after having won the first. The letter stated: ‘lt Is quite obvious to our executive committee that our senior team carried out the approved and confirmed recommendation of the half-yearly meeting and played a game as instructed ” As it was a management committee decision, the CHA. decided that its decision concern ing the matches played would stand.
