Belfast riots
(N .Z .P .A.-Reuter—Copyright) BELFAST, Nov. 7. Rioting youths hurled petrol bombs in Belfast late last night in an attempt to burn out Roman Catholic families who had moved into a previously Protestant area. A crowd of about 120 youths started a riot in the Glen Veagh and Lenadoon areas. Petrol bombs were thrown and shots fired. Two houses were set alight and were dealt with by the fire brigade before the crowd dispersed. There was more rioting across the border in the Irish Republic.
Some 200 people began rioting last night after explosives and arms had been seized in the village of Lifford, County Donegal, northwestern Ireland. Stones were hurled at the police station and Seven policemen were reported injured after a two-hour battle which ended when police reinforcements arrived.
