Copper cargo dispute

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) ROTTERDAM, Oct 19. A court in Rotterdam yesterday revoked a seizure order on a cargo of Chilean copper aboard a West German freighter, only to reimpose it at the request of lawyers for an American corporation. The copper, totalling 1250 tons, aboard the 8250-ton freighter Birte Oldenforff, is the subject of a dispute involving the Kennecott Copper Corporation and Chile’s Left-wing Government. It cannot be unloaded because of the seizure order, and because of a boycott by the Dutch Transport Workers’ Union. After the seizure order imposed by the Rotterdam District Court had been lifted, Kennecott’s legal representatives told the Court that rights to the cargo had been transferred to “an administration office,” which was not named. Lawyers for this office then submitted a request for a new seizure of the copper, which the court granted.
