Pigeon problem

Information on eradication of pigeons will be sought by the foreman of the Waimakariri Pest Destruction Board (Mr E. W. Hawkins). At the board’s October meeting, in Rangiora yesterday, Mr G. D. McGrath said he was concerned about the numbers of pigeons in the board’s area. “They are increasing in the Oxford district considerably. If you drive across from the Eyre to the Waimakariri you will see several flocks. They are not big yet but they are increasing fast,” said Mr McGrath. The foreman said that he had received a complaint from a farmer that pigeons had eaten two or three acres of wheat and it had been necessary to resow eight acres.
