Value of stock retention

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 19. The stock retention incentive scheme was estimated to have saved the country a million dollars, said the Minister of Agriculture (Mr Carter) today. This was on the assumption that sheep numbers on June 30 were one million higher than a year before, as the latest estimates suggested, said Mr Carter, in Parliament.

“Although we can expect with some degree of confidence that relatively high wool prices will prevail throughout the season, it would be premature to make any estimate of the likely increase in our export income,” he added. “It would also be virtually impossible to estimate the share of this increase that could be attributed to the stock retention incentive scheme.”
