BEST BETS
Oamaru HI FOYLE (Race 5), br h 4 yrs, by Hi Lo’s Forbes—Golden Legacy, trained at Washdyke by P. C. Gallagher. Form this season has been outstanding. Looked desperately unlucky when checked and knocked to rear near turn in race won by Armbro Rebel at Motukarara on October 7. Finished brilliantly for second on that occasion and with better luck should be too good for this field. Trentham HOLIDAY WYN (Race 2), ch f 2 yrs by Gold Sovereign— Tolunda. trained by J. Didham, Otaki. The logical choice after her good second in stronger company in the Wellesley Stakes on the first day of the meeting. Gore KIMBLE LAD (Race 1), b g 4 yrs by Ayrshire Bard—Paisley Ann. trained by S. Shaw. Invercargill. The best assessment of his form can be taken through his defeat of Leyleigh at the Winton meeting. Leyleigh won at Trentham at her next start giving added worth to Kimble Lad’s winning run. Rotorua MIGHTY MIDGE (Race 4), b m 4 yrs by Battle Waggon— Miss Jekyll, trained by C. Robinson. Matamata. One of her two wins last season was at Rotorua, in Imin 11 4-ssec for six furlongs. A first-up third at Te Aroha three weeks ago suggested she is in for another good season Auckland ARMBROSE FIRST (Race 1) b c 2 yrs by Arm bro Hurricane— Dark Rose trained by C. Hunter, Cambridge. Brilliant winner of the Morrinsville Juvenile Stakes in race record time. He was very unlucky not Io have scored in the Waina Nursery’ Stakes al Cambridge last week.
