Fast times at Trentham

"The Tress” Special Service WELLINGTON. Brilliant times were the rule in final trials at Trentham yesterday. Fast work was done over the true distances but in the middle of tire course proper, which was fast. The racing surface holds promise of similarly fast times tomorrow. Paramill, perhaps spurred on by the fact that Dark Knowledge was running a separate trial only six lengths in front of her, went half a mile in 45 4-ssec. the last three furlongs in 34sec.

Her half-brother. Mill Court, ran the last four or five furlongs in 46 2-ssec, and he was not straining to return 33 4-ssec for the final three furlongs. Village Oak gave Golden Oak a length start in their six-furlong gallop but caught up before the turn and finished well to win by a neck. The last half-mile took 50sec and three furlongs 37sec. Touch ’n Go might have earned favouritism for the Desert Gold Stakes when she beat her chief rival. Dhow, by three lengths over five furlongs, the last four in 47sec, and three in 35sec.

Kay. another leading Desert Gold contender, worked well when she beat Swell Time by a half-length, finishing a half mile in 49 2-ssec, the last three furlongs in 35 2-ssec.

Opcodes was most impressive finishing four lengths clear of Sheralee. Sheralee started at the mile, joined Orcades at the seven, and they came from the four in 48 2-ssec. The final three furlongs took 35 4-ssoc and Sheralee’s mile Imin 48 3-ssec.

Bev Leigh improved on Tuesday’s gallop bv sprinting half a mile in 47 4-ssec. Triple Shot went a mile the last seven furlongs in Imln 34 l-ssec. four in 50 2-. r >sec. and three in 36 2-ssec.

Leyleigh showed that coming back to a mile tomorrow might not trouble her when she ran 49 1-ssec down the chute from a slow start, finishing six lengths clear of the two-ycar-old, My Comfort.
