Unregistered ram sales

The Government was among those buying unregistered rams in flocks of up to 1000 in the North Island, an Oxford studmaster said at the monthly meeting of the meat and wool section of North Canterbury Federated Farmers yesterday. Mr L. E. Taylor said that the sales were made privately and were therefore difficult to control. He was commenting on a reply to the section from the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association concerning the control of stud and flock fairs. In its letter the association said that rams were accepted only if they complied with conditions of entry, which included registration in the flock book, identification, and pedigree.
