Variable trading on Australian markets
Industrial issues were generally firm but mining shares were variable on Australian exchanges yesterday. Interest in speculative issues diminished further and oils were also lower.
Yilgarn Block, a Western Australia-based minerals explorer, rose 10c to 30c on turnover of 49,000 shares but Roebourne had a 10c drop to 295 c. Peko Wallsend firmed 10c at 990 c, and Australian Development gained 7c at 97c but Poseidon was firm on 1040 c. Western Mining, which on Tuesday announced it had a 50 per cent interest in the Curran Wells nickel block, recovered 6c at 307 c. C.R.A. gained 10c at 650 c but Bougainville slipped 5c to 230 c and N.B.H.C. weakened 10c to 280 c. B.H.P. fell 5c to 1125 c but Herald sold at 534 c after directors announced a 1-for--10 bonus issue.
Castlemaine Perkins gained 16c to 676 c, but C.U.B. lost 10c to 590 c. Woodside - Burmah eased silghtly to 263 c Flinders finned and Santos, Magellan, Endeavour and Beach were steady.
