Two-year-olds impress at Franklin trials

“The Preet" Special Service AUCKLAND. Prepak and Annie's Gal showed themselves tsvo-year-oids above the ordinary and Robin Royal and Battle Heights turned in promising preliminaries for Rotorua with smart gallops at the Franklin Racing Club's trial meeting at Pukekohe yesterday. Prepak and Annie’s Gal were the fastest of about SO youngsters which competed tn five heats over two furlongs and a half from starting gates at the foot of the straight Ridden by D. A. Peake, Prepak began fast In the first two-year-old heat and ran straight and freely to finish two lengths clear of an unnamed Stunning colt, with Liebllch and Final Charge almost together next, in 30sec. One of R. C. Verner's team from Takanini, Prepak had been promising in training. She is another of the Pakistan II breed, and a bay, from Precarious, and is raced by her breeder, Mr N. H. W. Amon (Bulls). Annie's Gal, ridden by D. J. Wyatt, performed similarly in

the second heat. Out quickly, she led nine others to the finish in 30sec, with a length and a half to spare, galloping easily. Better Bonnie and an unnamed Patron Saint filly were together next. A brown filly by Shifnal from Fickle Jade, Annie's Gal cost Mr and Mrs F. S. Galpin (California) only $l2OO at the Trentham yearling sales, and looks like being a good buy for her owners. Robin Royal, a fine sprinter at best, outran the half-dozen against him in the first open race, over seven furlongs and was ahead by two lengths al! the way in Imin 25 2-ssec. Glengarriek was second, with three lengths to First Edition and a further gap to Bronson and Styleman. Battle Heights, ridden by G. F. Hughes, won by a neck from Dare Devil in the other heat, returning imin 26 2-Ssec. After trailing Dare Devil, Son of Honey and Star Trouper, Battle Heights came up quickly into the last furlong, but had to battle hard before drawing just ahead of Dare Devil, which also raced encouragingly.
