N.Z. wool for Bangladesh
The women of Bangla- !■ desh will shortly be knitting their way through 1 60001 b of New Zealand t wool, under a scheme 1 introduced by the Christian Organisation for Relief and Rehabilitation in that country, the Canterbury Organiser of C.0.R.5.0. (Mr R. A. Consedine) said in Christchurch. New Zealand wool worth $15,000 is to be supplied ir response to an appeal from • C.0.R.R., and from it the women will knit children’s ' garments and fishermen’s ’ jerseys. ’ “C.O.R.R. was established ._ in Bangladesh in 1970 aftei j the country was struck bj g severe cyclones, and il , worked all the way through the time of military occupat tion which produced some j 10m refugees last year,” he said. “C.O.R.R. has established !, sewing centres throughout - Bangladesh, and through 1 these many women are being r taught the skills of sewing, tailoring, pattern making, anc 5 knitting. The garments they r make are used to clothe ‘ children and fishermen ‘ affected by the recent disas- ‘ ters which have beset the country,” Mr Consedine said.
