NEW SCHOOL DISCUSSED

A secondary school in the south-east suburb of Christchurch could expect to have 700 pupils in four years attending it, a meeting of 40 parents in the area was told last evening. In a report prepared for the meeting, Mr H. C. Evison, of the secondary division of the Christchurch Teachers’ College, said that there was an obvious gap in school distribution in the south-east area of Christchurch, which included Lyttelton, Heathcote, Diamond Harbour, Redcliffs and Sumner.

The meeting decided to canvass parents in the area to get support for the school, and to request a meeting with the Christchurch Secondary Schools’ Council. Mrs K. W. Norris was elected chairman of a committee, which comprised representatives from parent-teacher associations of primary schools.
