Cheque for Bangladesh building

A cheque for $2415 to rebuild villages in Bangladesh was presented to the C.0.R.5.0. organiser for the Canterbury, West Coast and Buller areas (Mr R. A. Consedine) by pupils of the Rangiora High School yesterday. Pupils raised the money with a variety of projects which included sponsored "starve-ins,” copper trails, dances and the kidnapping of the mayors of Rangiora and Kaiapoi for ransom. It is hoped about 100 houses, valued at $l4O each, 100 toilets ($25 each), a cottage industry centre and a medical clinic will be built with the money. The rebuilding is being organised by a Baptist missionary in Chandpur, Mr P. McNee. The picture shows Miss Barbara Hunter, of form 4SV, presenting the cheque to Mr Consedine. On the left is the principal (Mr T. M. Penny).
