TERMINAL DELAYED
The new domestic terminal at the Christchurch Airport would probably not be completed for the Commonwealth Games, as planned, because the services consultant had not completed plans by the due date and because of a rather high estimate, the City Council was advised last evening.
A sub-committee consisting of the chairman (Cr W. Massey), the City Engineer (Mr P. G. Secular), and the assistant airport manager (Mr R. C. Buchanan) had been formed to discuss these matters with the consultant, the airport and traffic committee reported. It was now unlikely that tenders could be called before the end of the year, the committee said.
The airport manager (Mr A. I. R. Jamieson) had been instructed to express the council’s concern to the architects employing the consultant and to say that unless there was a satisfactory result the employment of other consultants should be considered.
