Bill ‘danger to unions’
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. Oct. 16. Wage and salary earners had good reason to fear the implications of the remarks made by the Deputy Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), on pending legislation, said the! secretary of the Combined j State Service Organisations I (Mr D. P. Long) today. | “Mr Muldoon announced i at a dinner in Auckland that j industrial legislation, admit- ! tedly not to be passed until I next year, will be introduced this week containing penal provisions. Whatever Mr Muldoon may say about special penalties for what he terms ‘issues which are not industrial issues in the true sense,’ the fact remains that the bill will contain penalties. “The fact also remains that those penalties will be directed at union leaders and officials in defending the position of their union members,” said Mr Long.
