A second shield challenge

The Canterbury Rugby Union yesterday received its second challenge for the Ranfurly Shield next year. It came from South Canterbury. Marlborough made a challenge earlier this month. South Canterbury, which usually plays Canterbury on a home-and-away basis each year, surprised by beating Canterbury A in an early match last winter, but in the return game, in Christchurch, it lost to Canterbury B. South Canterbury made an unsuccessful challenge when Canterbury held the shield in 1970.
