Mardi gras plan

The closing of Seaview Road between Union Street and Marine Parade and Oram Avenue between Beresford Street and Seaview Road, New Brighton, from December 27 to 30, when the New Brighton Jaycee will hold a mardi gras, was approved by the Christchurch City Council last evening. Conditions have been laid down for the diversion of traffic, including buses; and the traffic committee said that because there was a proposal to create a mall in the area it was concerned that it might be construed that similar restrictions would be imposed. It must be clearly understood that the restrictions imposed were solely to protect the public and the council during the mardi gras festival.
