Lomax thrives in Invercargill
“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL. For the first time in four months the course proper at Invercargill was open for training yesterday. There was little fast work of interest, the trestles on the course proper being 30ft out. The going was soft. Lomax, which may race at Riccarton next month, and Lady Molyneux ran in from the half in 53 3-ssec. Lomax, which has developed into a grand type of four-year-old and is carrying a lot of condition, has thrived since he resumed. Kimbell Lad worked well within himself in sprinting half a mile with the two-year-old Bella-Light in 53sec, the pair finishing together. It was a smart run on BellaLight’s part, because she lost two or three lengths at the straight entrance. She is a fiUy by Bellborough from Paper Belle; a Freelight mare from the same family as Cogitation and Royal Mall. A winner at the Winton meeting. Kimbell Lad promises to develop his best form as a stayer, and the Ayrshire Bard gelding will race in high-weights at Gore later this month before running at Riccarton. Trix’s Sister and the two-year-old Flying Lomond (Lomond — Flying Trix) were paired over three furlongs in 43 2-ssec, being speeded up over the final quarter in 27 2-ssec. Meldie. which has done well since finishing third in the Winton Handicap on Saturday, was restricted to a couple of rounds of pace work.
