PROPOSALS TO DEVELOP MT HUTT SKIFIELD FACILITIES THE Minister of Forests invites proposals for the establishment, development; maintenance, and operation of skifield facilities at the summit basins of Mt Hutt in Pudding Hill State Forest No. 33. Sufficient particulars are required to enable the Minister to evaluate and compare applications, with special regard to public interest and safety as well as to rent proposed. Rent as a percentage of gross takings is envisaged, with due allowance for costs of construction and maintenance.

The Minister will not be committed by negotiating with any applicant. Rights will not necessarily be exclusive. The arrangements envisaged are:— (a) Use of skifield: by permit. (b) Facilities sites: by deed of lease. (c) Entry and transport to skifield: by gazetted easement as appropriate. (Any toll provision is to be set out in proposals.) Details of required documents will be supplied when Proposals have been evaluated, but may be subject to approval by the Solicitor-General. Certain special requirements must be taken into account, including sharing of lower access reading with other prospective lessees, and hazards of isolation, and proposals must contain provision for these eventualities. Proposals must show reasonable prospects of legal and practical access to the skifield, including any necessary easements over routes outside State forest land. The general intention is that the successful tenderer will provide on a commercial basis such facilities as access, parking, skitow, shelter buildings, refreshments and Incidental, toilets, etc., to further public enjoyment of the Mt Hutt ski basin and the upper basin of Pudding Hill Stream generally. However, forest management essentials (such as planting to control erosion) must be reserved to the Minister. Full particulars may be obtained from the Conservator of Forests, P.O. Box 513, Christchurch, and applications in sealed envelopes marked “Tender of Proposals for Mt Hutt Skifield” with a deposit of $4OO to cover initial investigation expenses must reach him at that address bv the 15th day of November. 1972. Applicants may be asked to arrange at their expense special investigations required by the Minister.
