Plane hit by lightning

Lightning twice struck a National Airways Corporation Friendship aircraft during a flight from Wanganui to Wellington yesterday afternoon. No damage was reported, although the aircraft, which was flying at about 8000 ft at the time, came down to a lower altitude for the rest of its journey in an effort to prevent a recurrence. The noise inside the aircraft when the lightning struck was rather like the noise one would expect if the fuselage was hit by a large boulder, a passenger said.
