TRACKWORK Dhow shapes well for Trentham
Final gallops by Trentham candidates yesterday advanced the strong form claims of Dhow and Fables (New Zealand Guineas), Purdie (Wellington Handicap), Young Ida and Bompa (Wainui Handicap), Patrida and Count Kereru (Shorts Handicap), and Young Craig and Southern Command (Wellesley Stakes) Rain fell during the training at Trentham, but the footing was good enough on the course proper for Dhow to run seven furlongs in Imin 31 2-ssec. Ridden by N. Cowles, she finished four lengths ahead of Slips, with Go Fun third in a gap of six lengths. Young Craig ran five furlongs down the chute in Imin Isec, but finished, a neck behind Shifnal Chief, which joined in at the three furlongs. Young Craig’s last half mile took 48 4-ssec. At Takanini, Fables galloped a mile on the No. 1 grass, which was soft and cutting out after overnight rain, in Imin 50 2-ssec. He quickened readily to return 38 l-ssec for the last three furlongs. panions in the best gallop at Wanganui They worked from the half mile, and sprinted the last three furlongs on terms in 37 3-ssec. Their gallop was on the No. 1 grass, which was slightly easy.
