PARK NOT OPEN YET
A trustee of the R. O. Bradley Estate at Charteris Bay (Mr E. J. Bradshaw) said yesterday that the estate would not immediately become a public park. Mr Bradshaw was referring to a report in “The Press” yesterday which said that the Governor-General (Sir Denis Blundell) had signed into law the R. O. Bradley Estate Bill which made the 1600-acre estate a national park. Mr Bradshaw said that the estate was still subject to a life tenancy and until that terminated, the trustees —Mr Bradshaw and Mr L. D. Cotterill—must continue to administer the property as a private farm. During this time neither public use nor public access could be permitted. “The purpose of the act now passed by Parliament is to determine the procedure to be followed for the administration of the property as a public park when the life tenancy eventually terminates,” he said.
