‘Deficiency' of $3

The Town Hall fund yesterday was increased by $3 to make up a “deficiency.” The money came from an anonymous donor, a fan of the Canterbury and former All Black full-back, W. F. McCormick. The donor read in the “Christchurch Star” on October 2 that McCormick had scored 1013 points for his province and contributed that sum to the Town Hall fund —a dollar a point. The next day, he read in “The Press” that McCormick had scored 1016 points for Canterbury. In a letter to the chairman of the Town Hall Committee (Cr H. G. Hay), the donor, enclosing $3, said he was making up the “deficiency, but I would like to see the area of doubt cleared up, if only for the record.”
