$l000 gift to hockey

The former Mayor of Christchurch (Mr A. R. Guthrey) has given $lOOO to the national appeal, which will be officially launched tomorrow evening, to raise $lOO,OOO to stage an international hockey tournament in Christchurch in 1974. It is the first donation made to the fund and was described yesterday by Mr T. I. Crossen, the chairman of the strategy council which has been set up to direct the fund-raising, as extremely generous. Mr Guthrey is one of six Christchurch businessmen who have accepted positions on the strategy council Mr Guthrey last week gave $lOOO to the Keith Newson memorial piano fund, for the purchase of a Steinway grand piano for the Town Hall
