Neralee Waverley pick

“The Press” Special Service NEW PLYMOUTH. A previous winner on the Waveley track, the Matamata mare, Neralee, would only have to come up with one of her better efforts to win the Waverley Cup today. Run over 10 furlongs for a stake of $2560 the Waverley Cup will be the first leg of the T.A.B. concession double at the Waverley Racing Club’s spring meeting. With the withdrawal of the two at the top of the handicap, Heckle’s Choice and Magnifique, the field is not a strong one and appears well within Neralee’s range. Her latest form has been sound, although she was beaten into ninth place at her most recent attempt at Te Rapa. She was a good winner at the Rotorua meeting on September 6, beating a field of similar strength to the one that will oppose her today. Ashanti and Kartlka might be the main threats to Neralee. Neither have been in good form lately but both are improving and both have ability Kartlka is a fine stayer at best and there is little doubt that she will be all the better for recent racing. Blue Nile has not started since July 8 but he makes strong appeal for the second leg, the Brewer Memorial Handicap. He ran at the recent Hawera trials and easily beat a fine field of sprinters.

In doing so he recorded the best time of the day and obviously the New Plymouth galloper which has a very fine record in sprints is ready to resume racing.

Tres Bon is not the most reliable of gallopers but on his day he is smart. He beat a strong field at the Thames meetIng and an effort In keeping with

this performance would make him Blue Nile’s main danger. Goidy Girl has not won for a long time but she keeps returning good races and is again likely to get some of the money, while Himself’s much improved recent form suggests that he also will take part in the finish. There has been some recent rain at Waverley and the track is likely to be easy.
