Big quinella dividend
"The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND. A huge c.uinella dividend of $7585.60, easily a record for New Zealand, was posted after the Doncaster Handicap at Ellerslie yesterday. There was only one winning ticket Easter Boy, 15/15 in the betting in a field of 16, was the main contributor to the huge dividend, he paid more than $lO6 for a win. But the second horse, Hidden Gold, was hardly a popular fancy either —he was 13/13 in the order. The event was, in fact, a disaster for the well-backed runners. The third horse, Riff Kin, was the fourteenth favourite each way. . My Concern, the win favourite, stopped to last after sharing the pace. Kaipipi, 2/1, weakened to eighth and Ruth’s Delight, 3/3, was sixth. The amount bet on the quinella was $9482, of which 20 per cent was deducted in the way of taxation and club “take.” Quinella betting has been In operation in New Zealand since December 4.
