CAPTAINS TO DECIDE

By approving the competitions committee recommendation that existing rules for covers be deleted the Canterbury Cricket Association has given captains a free hand tn deciding whether covers are used for matches this season.

Mr A. G. Williams called for consistency. “If covers are used for the first day of the match then they should be used on the second,” he said. But the decision was left to the captains. The chairman (Mr I. P. Anderson) said: “I am sure they will solve the matter without any trouble.” Later, a player commented: “And if the captains cannot agree, I suppose they will have to fight H out.”
